Driving License Requirements

UAE Residents

All drivers holding a UAE-issued Residence or Employment Visa are required to present a valid UAE driving license that has been held for a minimum of 12 months.

Tourists/Visitors

Tourists and visitors with driving licenses from certain countries can drive in the UAE using their foreign license, provided they have a valid visit or tourist visa. The original license must be issued from the same country as the customer’s residence visa.

Specific Country Requirements

Customers with driver’s licenses from Japan, Turkey, Greece, and South Korea must provide a translated version of their license, duly approved by their respective consulate or embassy.

General Requirements

Drivers from countries not listed above can rent a vehicle as long as they have a valid International Driver’s Permit (IDP) in addition to a valid foreign driver’s license that has been held for at least 12 months.

Passport Information

  • UAE Residents: A copy of the passport (photo ID page and visa page) must be provided at the time of rental.
  • Tourists and Visitors: A valid UAE entry visa along with a passport is mandatory. Copies of the passport and visa should be shared at the time of booking to avoid any issues during vehicle collection.

Method of Payment

  • Credit Card: A valid credit card in the renter’s name is required. At the time of vehicle pick-up, estimated rental charges are taken upfront, and a pre-authorization is processed according to the contract terms. The credit card must have sufficient credit to cover all rental costs. The blocked amount depends on the type of car rented.
  • Accepted Cards: Visa, MasterCard,and American Express are accepted. Debit cards are not accepted for security blocking but can be used for payments.
  • Other Payment Methods: Credit cards are preferred, but cash and debit cards may be accepted for settling dues at some U Save Rent a Car counters.
